Your Guide to Donating Livestock
Thank you for supporting Rotorua Community Hospice. By donating livestock, you are ensuring that specialist palliative care remains free for every family in our region. 100% of your donation stays in Rotorua.

1. How to Donate (The 3-Step Process)
Step 1: Tag & Identify
- Select your stock: Whether it’s a single cull cow, a prime steer, or a line of lambs.
- Tagging: All donated cattle must be NAIT compliant with a visible ear tag.
- Marking: Clearly mark the animals (e.g., with stock spray) so the transporter can identify the “Hospice Line”.
Step 2: Book with your Agent
- Inform your stock agent or processor representative that you are donating a separate line to Rotorua Community Hospice.
- Provide them with our Vendor Code (contact Jessica Meade, fundraising@rotoruahospice.co.nz for code) to ensure the proceeds are routed correctly.
Step 3: Complete the ASD Form
- Fill out a separate Animal Status Declaration (ASD) form for the donated animals.
- Recipient Details: * Entity: Rotorua Community Hospice Trust

- Important: Write your own Legal Entity Name (e.g., Smith Family Trust) in the “Additional Information” section so we can issue your tax receipt.
2. Compliance Checklist (2026 Standards)
To ensure a smooth donation and protect the Hospice, please confirm the following:
- [ ] Ownership: You are the legal owner of the livestock and they are free of security interests.
- [ ] Fitness for Transport: Animals are healthy, fit for travel, and comply with all MPI animal welfare codes.
- [ ] Withholding Periods: Livestock are outside the withholding period for any drench or chemical applications.
- [ ] TB Status: Cattle must be TB-free and from a TB-free property (if not going direct to slaughter).
3. Tax Benefits for You
Hospice is a registered charity. Once the processor transfers the funds to us, we will send you a Donation Receipt.
- 33.33% Tax Credit: You can claim back a third of the donation value from the IRD.
- Example: A $1,500 steer donation effectively costs you $1,000 after your tax credit.
