Become a Hospice Hero

Will you become a Hospice Hero and help support over 120 people living with a life-limiting illness?

April 9, 2020

Your health, safety and well-being are most important right now, and that of your whānau and friends. On behalf of everyone at Rotorua Community Hospice, we sincerely hope you and your loved ones are okay.

During our nation’s response to coronavirus, we encourage you to continue to support your loved ones and your community. And if you’re able to, we need your help right now too.

As well as protecting patients, we have to consider the financial implications of the virus. With the closure of our Hospice Shop and the cancellation of our major fundraising event Harcourts Dancing for Hospice, we have lost over $200,000 of vital fundraising income.

Will you be a Hospice Hero and support out patients and their whānau today?

With regards to Rotorua Community Hospice’s ongoing care, I can assure you that we are following Government advice and have put strict measures in place to protect staff, patients and their whānau. If you or a loved one are currently in our care, please feel free to contact our clinical team on 07 343 6591 – ext 1 if you have any concerns or want to discuss any changes to our service.

Every month, we support 120 people living with a life limiting illness. Just last week, we had 8 new referrals. That’s why we must continue to be able to give the gift of Hospice care.

Without this, we will struggle to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

I am enormously proud of our role in the community and our dedication to providing a caring and compassionate service for people living with a life-limiting illness. I am determined that we must continue to provide the same levels of personal, round-the-clock care, not only during the current crisis but long into the future as well.

If you are in a position to help ensure this is the case, please make a donation today.

If everyone gives what they are able to, we know as a collective group we will be able to continue to provide exceptional Hospice care.

We will get through this together as a community – supporting one another and doing our best to fight COVID-19. We’re proud of you and all New Zealanders who are staying home to do just that. You’re helping to ensure our nurses and health care assistants are safe on the frontline.

Me mahi tahi tatou mo te oranga o te katoa
We should work together for the wellbeing of everyone

With my thanks and very best wishes.

P.S. Another way to help us is to join our ‘Have a go for Hospice’ virtual fundraiser. This is a new, fun version of our major fundraising event, Harcourts Dancing for Hospice which was cancelled due to COVID-19 reducing our income by $150,000. Have a go for Hospice instead!
